The Government of India has delegated powers to FRRO Goa for grant of PIO card status to eligible foreign citizens of Indian origin residing within the Jurisdiction of Goa w.e.f. 01/07/2014. These powers are on similar lines of OCI card status granted earlier.
However, for various reasons, including the need to provide office premises, basic infrastructure and trained manpower support, the Bureau of Immigration has not been able to implement the OCI and PIO scheme in Goa so far.
However, in order to avoid inconvenience to the applicants, the Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs has advised FRRO Mumbai to accept and process all the PIO applications from the applicants coming under the jurisdictional control of FRRO Goa until further orders.
Any foreign citizen of Indian Origin based in Goa who intend to apply for PIO Card status and cannot wait for the facility to commence in Goa, is therefore advised to submit the application to FRRO Mumbai for disposal.
