About Training Programme

The Government of Goa has accepted the proposal of the office of Commissioner for NRI Affairs and has established the “Overseas Employment Agency of Goa” in order to help the Goan youth in getting gainfully employed in Overseas Countries, particularly those in the Middle-East and South-East Asia which offer tremendous opportunities for skilled workers from India . According to the Government of India, Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs, the major trades in demand include electricians, plumbers, carpenters, drivers, welders, fitters, machine operators, etc. However, the skilled workers from India have to compete with workers from other countries.

Against this background, the “Overseas Employment Agency of Goa” in collaboration with the State Directorate of Craftsmen Training organizes Skill Upgradation Training and Foreign Orientation Programmes for Vocational and Technical Training in each discipline for the benefit of skilled workers from Goa in order to familiarize them with good working practices, safety norms, use of tools, working condition in foreign countries, adaptation to foreign environment etc., and thereby benefit them to secure jobs in Overseas Establishments.

To begin with, a short duration one week course in the trade of “ELECTRICIAN” was conducted for a batch of 20 candidates on first come first served basis in the Government Industrial Training Institute, Borda, Margao from 20th to 25th March 2007. Subsequently, such Skill Upgradation Training and Foreign Orientation Programmes have been conducted for Electricians, Plumbers, Welders, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Mechanics, Draftsmen, Diesel Mechanics, IT operators and Hospitality workers. Short 3-6 month courses are also conducted for small batches of school drop outs in trades of Mobile repair, Electrician, Plumbing, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning, Tailoring, Health care work and Food production.

Applications are invited from interested candidates possessing ITI Trade Certificate from a Govt. recognized Institute, and with age limit not exceeding 35 years for Skill Upgradation Training and Foreign Orientation Programmes. Those who have overseas appointment offers in this trade will be given preference in training. The interested candidates may contact the Director for NRI Affairs, Government of Goa and submit an application in the prescribed format with supporting documents.
